154 Young Nigerians Begin Their Ethical Leadership Journey

On 26 June 2026, Africa's future wasn't being debated in a boardroom or discussed in a policy paper.
It was taking shape inside a classroom in Alimosho, Lagos, Nigeria.
At Ade Gloryland College in Alimosho, Lagos, 154 students aged 10 to 17 gathered for Africa 10XG Foundation's Ethical Leadership School Outreach, an interactive programme designed around one conviction: ethical leadership is not learned when someone becomes a CEO, public servant, or entrepreneur. It begins in childhood, one decision at a time.
The outreach builds on Africa 10XG Foundation's growing commitment to developing a new generation of African leaders whose influence is anchored not only in competence but also in character.
As the Foundation continues to champion ethical leadership across Africa, this school outreach represents an important step towards embedding integrity where it has the greatest long-term impact—in young minds.
Looking Beyond Corruption
Across Africa, conversations about governance often begin with corruption. Yet corruption rarely begins with multimillion-dollar scandals.
It begins much earlier.
A small lie.
A shortcut in an examination.
Keeping something that isn't yours.
Remaining silent when someone is treated unfairly.
Left unaddressed, these everyday decisions shape the culture of homes, neighbourhoods, communities, institutions and nations.
Before the seminar, Africa 10XG Foundation conducted a baseline integrity survey of 30 randomly selected students. While most rejected obvious forms of corruption, the survey revealed that 17 students admitted lying for personal advantage, 12 admitted cheating during a test, and 11 admitted taking something that was not theirs. The findings reinforced an important lesson: ethical leadership must be taught before everyday compromises become lifelong habits.
Those findings shaped the entire outreach.
Making Ethics Practical
Rather than delivering a traditional lecture, the programme immersed students in experiences that connected ethical decisions to everyday life.
The session opened with interactive polling and data collection before students were introduced to the principles behind Africa 10XG Foundation's Ethical Leadership initiative. From there, a short drama illustrated how seemingly insignificant acts of dishonesty can evolve into larger patterns of corruption over time.
Students then watched a pre-recorded video of Africa 10XG founder and CEO, Chidi Ameke, presenting a short talk on ethical leadership and the connection between personal character and a thriving society.
A facilitated discussion encouraged students to challenge assumptions, ask difficult questions and reflect on situations they encounter both inside and outside school.
The session concluded with a collective ethical leadership pledge, followed by the distribution of leadership books to every participant, before interviews and group photographs captured the day's experience.
The message throughout was consistent:
Ethical leadership is not a title. It is the daily practice of choosing what is right, even when no one is watching.

Together, they presented ethical leadership not as an abstract ideal but as a practical habit that students can begin developing today.
This approach recognises that tomorrow's judges, teachers, entrepreneurs, engineers and public servants are already forming the values that will guide their future decisions.
By helping young people understand the long-term consequences of everyday choices, Africa 10XG Foundation is investing in something deeper than leadership skills; it is investing in ethical foundations.
What we teach children today shapes the societies of tomorrow.
Measuring More Than Attendance
The outreach did not end when the final photographs were taken.
Students completed a post-event reflection exploring how their perspectives had changed following the seminar. Questions examined whether they now recognised the connection between small daily choices and future leadership, their willingness to challenge dishonest behaviour, and their confidence in choosing honesty over shortcuts.
This emphasis on measuring mindsets, not simply participation, reflects Africa 10XG Foundation's commitment to building evidence-based leadership programmes capable of generating measurable social impact.
Investing in Africa's Future Starts Earlier Than We Think
For investors, philanthropists and partners committed to strengthening education across Africa, one lesson stands out clearly.
Infrastructure builds schools.
Teachers build knowledge.
But ethical leadership builds institutions that last.
Every nation depends on leaders who can be trusted with public resources, private investment and community confidence. Those qualities cannot be introduced after graduation; they must be cultivated while character is still being formed.
The 154 young people who participated in this outreach represent more than attendees at a school seminar.
They represent 154 future decision-makers whose understanding of integrity has been challenged, strengthened and intentionally shaped.
For Africa 10XG Foundation, this is only the beginning.
The vision is simple but ambitious: raise a generation of Africans whose leadership is defined not only by achievement but also by integrity and whose everyday decisions help build stronger schools, stronger institutions and a stronger continent.
This outreach demonstrates a scalable model that combines behavioural research, interactive learning, measurable evaluation and community engagement. Every school reached becomes another opportunity to strengthen ethical leadership before harmful habits become entrenched.
If Africa's future will be shaped by today's children, then ethical leadership cannot remain an optional conversation. It must become part of education itself. On 26 June, 154 young Nigerians took that first step. Africa 10XG Foundation intends to help thousands more follow.
